How do I reconcile medications in DrFirst?

Medication reconciliation is the process of keeping an up-to-date, accurate list of what medications your patient is taking. DrFirst allows you to do this:

  • In bulk - what a time-saver!
  • Manually, one-by-one
  • After you have just sent in a prescription

Bulk reconciliation

Here's a video of the first few steps:

Here's the step-by-step instructions:
1. Sort by "Date Written"; or, for imports from Dosespot, "Start" - this example is the latter:
2. Now the medications are sorted by oldest to most recent. So, click "Date Written" (or "Start") a second time to have the order be from most recent to oldest.
NOTE: We have requested DrFirst make this the default sort in Luminello; if they do, we will update this article.
3. Check the "Select All" box:

4. UNcheck ONLY the medications that you wish to KEEP in the active list - likely the ones you have most recently prescribed.  Leave old medications (the ones you wish to make inactive) checked.
5. Click the "Stop Medication(s)" icon next to the "Check All" box.
6. Use one of the default options, or enter your own (eg: "Old rx"), as shown in the example below:
7. Scroll down and click "Submit."

And voilĂ !  You have an up-to-date list of active meds.  Note the higher the number of medications you've stopped, the longer DrFirst will take to update. In cases with hundreds of medications, it could take 1-2 minutes. If in doubt after then, or if it appears "nothing happened," please simply refresh your screen and you will see the updates have been made.

Manual reconciliation - one at a time

Go into the specific rx you wish to stop, click the "Stop Medication" icon, then follow steps 6-7 above.

Automatic reconciliation after sending in an e-prescription

After sending a prescription, you will see a screen that asks you which medications should stay in your active list, and which you want to stop/move off your list.  Click "Stop" of all the medications that you now want to make inactive.

NOTE: To prevent LONG "Existing Medication" lists, we recommend before sending any prescriptions that you perform a bulk reconciliation as described at the beginning of this article.
