How do Luminello, DrFirst, and Surescripts work together?
Luminello, in collaboration with our partners, offers assistance to clinicians encountering e-Rx transmission issues. Here is an overview of how e-prescriptions are sent to pharmacies.
- Luminello serves as a platform that connects patient and clinician data.
- DrFirst provides the user interface, enabling clinicians to e-prescribe.
- Surescripts functions as the transmission "engine" responsible for sending the e-Rx to the pharmacy.
Read on to understand how the support process works and for troubleshooting tips.
DrFirst
- The interface has received certification from Surescripts and the DEA for sending controlled substances (as well as non-controlled substances).
- Manages the e-Rx and EPCS setup process in compliance with DEA regulations.
- Handles the e-refills process.
- Any bugs related to the above must be resolved by DrFirst, which operates during standard business hours in Eastern Time.
- Luminello will coordinate the support process, but only DrFirst can address and resolve e-Rx processes or bugs.
- The most common issue that Luminello clinicians encounter with DrFirst is related to e-prescribing after changing or upgrading phones. To learn more about this, see this article.
Surescripts
- Once a prescription has been sent, the checkmark indicates successful transmission to the Surescripts network.
- Surescripts does not provide direct customer support to Luminello users, but they collaborate with DrFirst and Luminello to troubleshoot any issues.
- The most common issue faced by Luminello providers with Surescripts is when pharmacies claim not to have received a prescription. To learn more about this, see this article.
