How do I protect my notes that contain substance abuse treatment information?

Luminello makes it possible for you to protect the contents of notes that contain substance abuse treatment information. This allows clinicians to keep patients' sensitive information private, even from group administrators and assistants. Read on to learn more.

Note: this feature is available for premium (non-grandfathered) plans only.

1. You can start by checking the "This note contains substance abuse treatment information" box while composing a note for a chart.

Or...

1. Go to the patient's chart entry that contains substance abuse information, and choose "change protected status" from the drop-down.

2. The note containing substance abuse information will not be hidden from the note "owner." However, an assistant, for example, reviewing the chart entries, will see the following warning for any note that contains substance abuse information.

3. The entry's checkbox is greyed out, and the drop-down options are hidden until the user consents to the warning. To consent to the warning, the user must click "Proceed."

4. To show all notes, ensure that the "Show all notes" box is checked.

5. After consenting to the warning, the note containing substance abuse treatment information will be revealed to the user.

Other areas where the substance abuse warning will show

  • When a user tries to retrieve a draft.
  • When a user tries to view the "Chart History" section.

  • When a user tries to retrieve a draft from the "Calendar" section.
  • When a user tries to export a note.
